The Virgin Coast is named, in part, after the island Storjungfrun outside Söderhamn and after the virgin nature along the Gästrikes and Hälsing coasts. Along the Virgin coast there are 4,502 islands, many fine sandy beaches and genuine, old fishing villages.
Along the Virgin Coast we find Norrland's oldest city, Gävle (city privileges 1496), the city of parks, Söderhamn, Glada Hudik and the Middle Fjärden in Nordanstig. Along the Virgin Coast there are 4,502 islands, many fine sandy beaches and genuine, old fishing villages that were once important for food. You can reach the virgin sites along the Virgin Coast via the connecting roads from Jungfrukustvägen or by boat.
